PEDS Study

Pediatric Providers' Experiences Assessing Young Children's Emotion and Behavior Study

We would like your input on the utility of data that we have collected from 900 parents about their 3-5-year-old children's emotions and behaviors (e.g., irritability, tantrums, sadness, separation fears, social anxiety). We will present the data and ask you questions about your impressions of our findings and the extent to which these data could be useful for when you talk to parents about these concerns.

In our research, parents completed a 14-day daily diary to tell us about the specific frequency, duration, and impairment each day for twelve specific depressive/mood behaviors (e.g., sadness, tantrums, irritability, tearfulness/sensitivity, changes in energy level), four specific social anxiety behaviors (e.g., shyness around peers, adults), and eight specific separation anxiety behaviors (e.g., distress when anticipating separation from a caregiver) (Bufferd et al., 2017; 2019; 2023; Leppert et al., 2019; Chad-Friedman et al., 2022).

Please note that child participants in the study did not have any serious developmental or medical disabilities, such as autism spectrum disorder or cerebral palsy.

After you review the data below, please return to the survey window to answer the questions.
